We live at a time where, there is no shortage of information, or messages being thrown around.
On a daily basis, we tend to see thousands of adverts. Even this website, is a testament to the importance of being online.
Nevertheless, the fact is, managing the streams of information that we are exposed to, whilst we simultaneously are managing our personal lives, can be challenging.
Learning To Navigate Living In A World With So Much Info.
On the one hand, we want the information being sent our way to be relevant to us and feature products and services of interest. However, we also have privacy concerns and may be reluctant to share our preferences online. Due, perhaps, to the (sometimes) impersonal nature of being online and the issues of trust.
No matter where we live in the world, we all have probably heard of instances where well known companies have had their customer databases hacked.
Suffice to say, that living in an era where we always have access to information. Does come with its drawbacks.
Nevertheless, despite the obvious drawbacks and the fact that too much exposure to technology and information can be bad.
Ultimately, living in an era, where there is so much data available, is still amazing. The only caveat is, we have to learn how to manage and navigate life, with the presence of all of this information.
The main reason, living in an age full of data is a good thing is, success in life, largely comes down to the decisions we make. Moreover, what can empower us to make good decisions is, information.
Another important caveat to bare in mind is, the difference between information we learn firsthand from experience and information we get from other sources.
For the most part, we want to be able to get advice and compare notes/experiences with others about a particular course of action. Meanwhile, what we want to avoid is trying to duplicate what someone else has done or receiving so much information that things become predictable. After all it’s still our lives and we want to have some input into our lives too.
To put it a different way, we want to know if the movie is a good movie, without finding out how it ends, ahead of time.
With time, we should be able to figure out how to avoid the pitfalls of too much exposure to technology and information. Whilst we get better at using information in an ideal way, to empower us to achieve our end goals.
It is absolutely amazing, to be able to develop the skill of conducting research, on a particular course of action. As, over time, this skill gets better and helps us develop clarity and confidence, about what we want, where we are going and why.
Information And Communication Is A Two Way Street.
Furthermore, as we become adept at navigating the wealth of information at our disposal. We eventually stumble upon the importance of listening. People that conduct research tend to be open minded, curious, objective and humble.
You conduct research, when you know that you lack all the answers, or necessary information, to conduct anyone. Let alone yourself.
Research, A Real Game Changer.
Research, is a great way to get a better grasp of reality. Reality, is an amazing place to make decisions from. If the world has a problem, it’s that too many of us refuse to keep it real.
When we deal with reality and get an accurate look at the good and the bad. We can at least know where we stand in relation to it all i.e. what our next move is going to be.
A big part of life, is knowing who we are, what we stand for and what our why is. In others words, knowing who we are so that we can then represent ourselves to the rest of the world authentically.
However, the flip side of the coin is, it is also extremely important for us to be acutely aware of who and what the world is because communication, is a two way street.
Ideally, we have to both know who we are and who the world is, because as mentioned previously, eventually, life is about serving society.
Subsequently, when we understand all (ourselves and others) we can do it all, as efficiently as possible.
